This time, the highest number of new infections occurred in Lower Austria.

563 new infections with SARS-CoV-2 were added on Monday according to the figures of the Ministry of the Interior (as of 9.30 am) in the past 24 hours. So far, 1,458,095 registered tests in Austria have yielded 38,658 positive results. This means that about 2.65 percent of the tests performed confirmed an infection with the coronavirus. At present there are 8,375 actively infected persons in Austria, 767 patients have died so far, 29,516 are considered to have recovered.

This means that an average of 731 new infections per day have occurred in Austria over the past seven days. As of Monday, 13,412 tests have been registered in the electronic registration system (EMS) – more than on Sunday (around 12,500), but significantly less than on Saturday (18,000). Nevertheless, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) said at a press conference that the number of tests had not decreased over the weekend. In view of a more favorable development of the Covid-19 numbers, Anschober hopes for the new measures for bars, clubs and private events, which came into force on Monday.

There are currently 364 Covid-19 patients in hospital treatment. 67 of them are in intensive care units.

Lower Austria as new hot spot
Looking at the number of new infections by federal state, it is noticeable on the one hand that for the first time in a long time Vienna is not in the first place among new infections, on the other hand the number of tests remained highly variable from federal state to federal state. Lower Austria recorded 181 new infections with 1,552 registered tests. This means that around 11.7 percent of the reported tests were also positive. However, this could be due to late registrations: Last Friday there was a strong outlier with 891 test registrations. In Vienna there were 172 new infections out of 4,369 registered tests, which corresponds to a hit rate of almost four percent.

66 new infections were registered in Upper Austria, where 2,746 new tests were registered, significantly more than in Lower Austria. In Vorarlberg there were 42 further infections with SArS-CoV-2, 1,270 tests were re-evaluated in the westernmost province (hit rate 3.3 percent).

Tyrol recorded 33 additional cases in the past 24 hours in 1,024 tests (3.2 percent hit rate), in Styria 32 cases were registered in 1,683 tests (1.9 percent of tests positive). There were 15 new infections in Carinthia in 192 tests (7.8 percent hits), in Salzburg 14 cases were registered in 385 tests (3.6 percent hits). In Burgenland there were eight new infections in 191 registered tests (4.2 percent hit rate).

The new infections are divided among the provinces of Austria as follows:

Burgenland: 8
Carinthia: 15
Lower Austria: 181
Upper Austria: 66
Salzburg: 14
Styria: 32
Tyrol: 33
Vorarlberg: 42
Vienna: 172
